The Shamble event will be an A, B, C, D handicapped player event and played from each players respective Tournament tee boxes. (See above). Each player will tee off from their designated tee box. Then the best drive will be selected and everyone will play their own ball from that location until holed. Continue this for all 18 holes. Each Captain (A player) will total the “3 LOW NET SCORES” for each hole and put 1 score in the box. Each team is required to use 2 tee shots from each player, please indicate on the score card. The Shamble will use 50% of everyone’s handicap (Calloway Flight will be based on a 20-handicap adjusted to 10).
If you hit your ball into the desert, you have four options:
1. If you find your ball you can play it as it lies.
2. You can also treat it as an “unplayable lateral hazard” and drop it back into play (on the grass) no closer to the hole with a one-stroke penalty.
3. If you cannot find your ball, you can take a drop at the “point of entry into the desert” with a one-stroke penalty.
4. If you think your ball might be lost or out of bounds, to save time you may play a “provisional ball” under penalty of stroke and distance. If you are hitting a provisional, you are now hitting three off the tee.
This is to expedite play and keep everyone on pace. If there is ANY question, play 2 balls and it will be resolved in the Pro Shop BEFORE signing your scorecard. Don’t fret…have FUN!
If your ball comes to rest in a bunker, the player is permitted to lift, clean, and place their ball within one club length, no closer to the hole. The ball must remain in the bunker. The player may smooth/rake the bunker before placing the ball.
All balls must be holed out when putting.
No player shall score more than three (3) over par on any hole. Once a player has reached this threshold, he/she should pick up their ball for that hole, let the group complete the hole, record a triple bogey on the scorecard and move on to the next hole. Example: Par 3 (max 6), Par 4 (max 7, Par 5 (max 8).
Score Cards must be signed by the “Scorer” and the “Attestor” before turning in to the committee to be valid.
A local rule allowing distance measuring devices will be in effect for this tournament. A player may obtain distance information by use of a distance measuring device. The ability to use the slope option on your rangefinder or other GPS device is permitted.
Lift, clean and place within one club length (no closer to the hole) in the fairway, rough, sand, desert areas and anywhere else as long as you are not in a marked penalty area. You cannot move a ball from the desert area to the grass, nor from the rough to the fairway, etc. The ball must be placed in the same course condition as it originally lies.
Golfers are allowed to carry an extra club in the bag to hit those errant shots out of the desert. This allows you to carry up to 15 clubs for this event. We do not want anyone damaging a new or used club and would rather you bring a club you don't mind banging off the rocks.
In cases of a TIE in Individual Stroke Play:
Score Card Playoff Gross or Net – Back 9 Gross score on day 2 if a tie still exists then go to the score card and start on 18, 17, 16, etc. until the tie is broken (gross).
Tie Breaker Format for the Traveling Trophy:
If a tie occurs it will be the Team with the lowest total gross between the 2 teams (or units). The unit compiling the most points will be awarded this years “Commanders Traveling Trophy.”
Tournament play will be broken down by individual flights based on validated USGA handicaps. The Calloway Flight is for those without a registered/verifiable handicap. The top 3 places in each flight will earn points and an award (the Calloway Flight does not earn points). The Tournament Committee reserves the right to adjust the fields as necessary.
